with all the publicity around the fifth estate program being shown tomorrow night on cbc, do you think this will make a big impact in the general public?edited by - jh on 29 january 2003 6:44:36.

first a clarification, then my apology, and last comment regarding th:
mr. eakins (aka trauma_hound) has stated a number of times that he wishes i would take matters off-board to settle in private email as he has done with others.
my comment about you being a wuss could, would, and should have been taken in a better context by you.
I don't get it. How can people get so involved in these forums that posts like this are necessary? Maybe I'm "old-school" or something like that, but I just can't get emotionally involved with strangers with fake names on an internet forum. Who cares what people say about you? These are people that you most likely will never meet in your life, and wouldn't recognize if you passed them on the street.
Just my opinion...
Stan (not really)
i am sure that many of us, even when we were in the truth, were uncomfortable with the notion that we had all the answers, but others just could not see the light.. i came across this great persian story today that illustrates the folly of thinking we have the only view of what is true.
incidentally, for those who have read his works, although it sounds like a deepak chopra story, it isnt.
it is a story told by an old persian scholar who lived and worked in delhi, india.. ==============================================================================.
Hi Eyeslice,
I hope I didn't offend you. It's just an expression that really bugs me, maybe because my JW parents use it, and out of respect for them, I just let it slide. Anybody else though, and I jump all over them.
And to you mistercynic, I have a feeling you are being sarcastic, but that's okay. Isn't this forum all about sharing our "personal perception"? What would anybody talk about if this wasn't allowed?

"I am sure that many of us, even when we were in the truth..."
No offense Eyeslice, but could you please refrain from using that statement. If you are here on this forum you are NOW in the truth. It really bugs me when I hear the JW religion referred to as "The Truth". What an oxymoron.
It could be listed with the rest of these:

i like him, but he makes me a little nervous.
He scares me. It's like putting a 16 year old behind the wheel of a Ferrari. Somebody's going to get hurt.

does anybody know what the watchtower's teachings on dinosaurs are (except for the ones that make up the governing body!
In the 1930's the official WT teaching was the the dinosaurs were taken to Venus where they are happily roaming around.
I'm not kidding. This was the "truth".

you're canadian when
signs showing you might be from canada... .
you're not offended by the term "homo milk".
"You know that the CEO of American Airlines is a Canadian."
I didn't know that. I do know, however, that the new governor of Michigan is Canadian.

in the watchtower world, woman are just about nothing.
they hold no responsibilities in the congregation except cleaning the toilets and not much more.
we all know that woman are just as intelligent as men, and some could even be good elders.
My wife has a masters degree in bio-chemistry. She's way smarter than me. My JW parents are careful not to mention anything JW related that has to do with science.(evolution vs creation, blood issues etc) in front of her. I think most JW's are afraid of educated people, men or women. It challenges their fragile belief system.

what do you think should happen to the two american pilots who fired on and killed the 4 canadians over in afganistan last year in the friendly fire incident?
this is a hard one.
as a canadian, i fully support the usa and obviously this disaster was not intentional and i'm sure the pilots must feel awful about it.
As a Canadian, I get offended anytime Canada or Canadians are viewed as inferior to Americans. Bush's response to this tragedy did just that. As for the pilots, it was a terrible mistake, but sometimes when you are in a situation that doesn't allow much time for a decision, you have to make a call. They did so, and it was wrong. Is it worth a court martial? I don't think so. I'm sure there are other forms of discipline that can be used.
If it was up to me:
Discipline the pilots, pay restitution to the families of the killed and wounded (don't forget about the other 8 soldiers that were involved) and make Bush go on CBC and apologize to Canada.

I know more Jewish history than most Jews.
